Pinkey Carter is the director for Brooks Health Center as well as the S.C. State University Fitness Center. She provides leadership to the nursing and support staff to ensure quality Health Care for our students.
Ms. Carter ensures that the Health Center also provides outreach to the student community in the form of Breast Cancer, Diabetes, Nutrition, Sickle Cell, Heart, and STD/HIV Awareness, Domestic Violence, and the Red Cross Blood Drives Ms. Carter was instrumental in students having Virtual Care through the Medical University of South Carolina so that they could have access to Health Care Services 24 hours a day. Ms. Carter also played a prominent role in the implementation of Medicat our Electronic Health Records.

Ms. Carter has over 35 years working in higher education and in the Health Care Industry. She was an adjunct professor for the School of Nursing at SC State University and Denmark Technical College where she taught Medical Office and Certified Nurse's Assistant courses. Ms. Carter worked as a Charge, Supervisor, Intensive Care, Recovery and Operating Room Nurse at Bamberg Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Carter started the Quarter Century Scholarship for SC State students. The annual $2500 scholarship is supported by faculty and staff who have worked at SC State for over 25 years to a randomly selected student(s) to assist with their financial needs.

Candace Huggins is a Licensed Practical Nurse for Brooks Health Center at South Carolina State University, a position to which she thoroughly enjoys serving the student population.
She is a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse with providing high-quality care. She specializes in geriatric and adolescent care, and patient education. Candace is committed to student advocacy and fostering a positive environment for students and their families.
She is adept at administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams. She is here to meet the emotional, medical, and physical needs of the students and improve the college tenure experience for students by observing, documenting, reporting, taking action and following-up on their health, safety, and medical needs, and implementing medical recommendations.

Sara is currently the Application Analyst for the Brooks Health Center. She provides IT Technical support and training to the director, practitioners, nurses, support staff as well as students. She is responsible for the following: Medicat (Electronic Health Records), the Student’s Patient Portal, Telehealth, and the Health Center’s Web-page.

Sara has worked in higher education for over 35 years starting at Voorhees University in Denmark, South Carolina where she worked for the office of Upward Bound as Administrative Support as well as in the department of Business & Fiscal Affairs as an Accounts Payable Clerk. She begun at SC State University working in the office of University Computing & IT Services, where she worked as the Administrative Support, Computer Operator and as the Applications Analyst in which she provided technical support and training for the Housing Module, Admission Test Module,(ACT/SAT) and Medicat Electronic Health Records.
